BYD is set to launch the K-Car soon, a small and affordable electric car model that is very popular in the Japanese market.

The K-Car is expected to be released in Japan in the second half of 2026. To be classified as a “kei car,” the vehicle must be under 3.4 m in length, 1.48 m in width, and 2 m in height.

Currently, the smallest electric vehicle in BYD’s lineup is the Seagull, also known as the Dolphin Surf or Mini, which measures 3,780 mm in length and is currently the brand’s best-selling model.

Now, images shared by ThinkerCar on X (formerly Twitter) offer a better look at the design of the new K-Car.

From the photos, it’s possible to confirm the leaks revealed in May regarding the exterior, but this is the first time the interior has been shown — with special attention to the floating multimedia center on the dashboard.

The K-Car is expected to feature a 20 kWh battery, offering a range of 180 km, along with support for DC fast charging up to 100 kW.

The starting price of the K-Car will be ¥2.5 million (around US$18,000), which is very competitive for the Japanese market. In comparison, the Nissan Sakura, the best-selling electric vehicle in Japan, starts at 2.59 million yen.
